The presentation will focus on understanding depression in people with epilepsy. Mood symptoms, including depression, are common experiences for many people. However, depression is more common among people living with epilepsy. The session will include explanations of how to identify depressive symptoms, treatments for depression, and recent research findings.
Dr. Scott Hirsch is an Assistant Professor of Neurology, Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine. He is the Neuropsychiatrist for the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. His clinical practice spans neurology and psychiatry with a special focus on Neuropsychiatry, the study of mental disorders attributable to diseases of the nervous system. Dr. Hirsch earned his M.D. at the New York University School of Medicine, where he also completed a double-board residency in Neurology and Psychiatry. He previously served as the Unit Chief of the Outpatient Geriatric Psychiatry and medical Psychiatry Clinics at Bellevue Hospital.
